Recently, the awarding ceremony of 12th National Award for Youth in Science and Technology was held in Beijing. Four professors at Zhejiang University were bestowed the award, namely, Professor Tang Ruikang from Department of Chemistry, Professor Gu Linyi from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Chen Renpeng from College of Civil Engineering and Architecture and Professor Zhou Kun from College of Computer Science and Technology.
The predecessor of the award was the “Chinese Association for Science Youth Award for Science and Technology” proposed by Qian Xuesen and Zhu Guangya, and was renamed “National Award for Youth in Science and Technology” in 1994. Once in two years, the board will screen candidates and select the most suitable ones for the award. A total of 1098 young scientific and technological workers were recognized with the award in the past 11 sessions. From July 2011, the half-year screening process produced 100 winners for the 12th award, with the average age of 39.
