National Engineering Research Center for Applied Power Electronic (NERC~APE), approved by the State Planning Commission in October 1996, supported by Zhejiang University, is set up for the aim of R& D on power electronics applications.

The NERC-APE mainly concentrates on developing novel induction heating systems, AC drive, and other high power high voltage industrial power supply systems. The main tasks of NERC-APE include:
(1) Provision of complete engineering research achievements on the large scale of power electronic application systems;
(2) Undertaking of national key projects;
(3) Digesting, absorbing and developing the imported advanced technologies;
(4) Promotion of international cooperation;
(5) Technical services, consultation, and training for industries.

The total investments for the NACRE~APE is about 30 million RMB. It is armed with two testing bases, three laboratories, four R& D departments and one company (the Electrical & Electronic Engineering Company ) registered in Hangzhou New & High Technology Development Zone.
