Computing Center of Zhejiang University mainly undertakes the tasks of computer basic education of the university as well as offering computer experimental environment for computer and its related curriculums for the whole university. At present, the center is under the leadership of the university dean department and depended on Computer Science and Engineering Department of Zhejiang University on its academic aspects. The center consists of center office, center of Yuquan campus, center of Xixi campus, center of Huajiachi campus, etc. The total faculty of the center is 86 including teachers and laboratory assistants (21 teacher with senior certificate). There are more than 1,200 computers provided for the all students of the four centers and offering above 1,500,000 hours service per year for computing experiment to students of the university.
Recent years, the center has taken full advantages of the amalgamation of four former individual universities, the strong support from the university and its related departments to actively improve the students experimental conditions, enhance the quality of service and make effort to build computer basic education up to a new stage. Presently, each of the four centers has carried out the management of computer laboratory by IC card and offered 14 hours service per day. Most teachers of the center try to explore new ways of the reform of computer basic education and have formed their own characteristics in using different teaching methods to teach different level students, and in the methods of examination, computer-aided instruction, etc.
In order to create a continuous development environment for teacher, the center encourages its teachers to participate in science research and improve teaching quality through science research. The teachers of the center actively participate in projects of science research and have strong advantages in the projects of management information system, computer network system, computer-aided instruction software, education administration system and geographic information system, etc.
