2018-08-09

Recently a delegation from ZJU’s College of Education paid a visit to Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Russia. The 8-day exchange, which involved 3 faculty members and 22 students from ZJU, focused on the study of modern education through academic lectures.

Ms. Anna Garmonova, dean of HES’s Graduate School and Institute of Education (IOE), expressed her warm welcome to ZJU’s delegation on the opening ceremony. “We are very grateful for the kind invitation and thoughtful arrangements by HSE,” said WU Juhui, deputy dean of ZJU’s College of Education. “I hope we can work together to promote further cooperation and exchange in the future.”

Course Study

ZJU students were offered a series of academic lectures related to modern education, including “The history and mission of the university”, “The reform of the post-Soviet state higher education”, “The comparison of Sino-Russian higher education management systems”, etc. In-depth discussions were triggered during the lectures, guiding the students to greater understanding of Russian education and more broadly, international education. By the end of the courses, the students gave group presentations on relevant topics to review what they had learned.

Russia pays much attention to cultural protection and inheritance. At Red Square and the Kremlin, the students learned about the history of Russia and Russian people's respect for heroes. At the State Tretyakov Gallery, they marveled at the composition and cultural context of the paintings on display. And at the Moscow Youth Theatre, the delegation appreciated Swan Lake, a must-see ballet performance and an enduring cultural card of Russia.

Visit Russia’s Ministry of Education

On the afternoon of July 26, the delegation visited Russia’s Ministry of Education and had a meeting with Mr. Lgor Ganshin, director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department. Deputy Dean WU introduced the established cooperation between ZJU and HSE and looked forward to an ongoing and enhanced partnership. Mr. Lgor Ganshin emphasized the great importance of exhange between young people from China and Russia. “I also hope to visit ZJU one day”, he mentioned, “and to further the bilateral cooperation in education that we have”.

Bilateral Cooperation Between ZJU and HSE

HSE’ Institute of Education is Russia's top multidisciplinary educational research and evaluation agency. With more than a dozen of educational research centers and professional education teams, IOE plays an important role in personnel training and education decision-making in Russia. In November 2017, ZJU’s College of Education signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with IOE. This summer school marks the first exchange program under the cooperation framework.
