ZJU rises to No. 101 globally in THE World University Rankings

2018-09-27

ZJU ranks fourth best in China and No.101 in the world, according to the latest World University Rankings released this Wednesday by Times Higher Education (THE). This represents a jump of more than 70 spots over last year's placement in the rankings.

The University sees significant improvement in its performance across the board on a wide range of indicators. The most impressive progress is seen in the industrial income, moving up to No. 1 in China from the 12th place in last year's ranking.

"It is wonderful to see ZJU recognized for our quality of education and research capabilities," said President WU Zhaohui. "This improved ranking by THE is an exciting affirmation of our efforts to create an open innovation ecosystem that promotes synergy and sharing across disciplinary and institutional boundaries. In line with 'Double World-Class' Initiative of the Chinese government, ZJU is on its path to a more open and global university for all through the implementation of its global strategy."

Three Chinese universities make it to the top 100: Tsinghua University (22), Peking University (31) and University of Science & Technology of China (93).

According to THE, the rankings focus on five key areas. Thirty percent of the overall score is based on teaching, 30 percent from research, 30 percent from citation impact, 2.5 percent from industry income and 7.5 percent from the international outlook. A list of over 1000 top institutions in the world are included in the rankings.
