NIE Zhenzhao, a professor at the School of International Studies, Zhejiang University, is officially elected a member of the Academia Europaea.
Founded in 1988 on the initiative of the Royal Society and other National Academies in Europe, the Academia Europaea serves as official advisor to the European Union under the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) created by the European Commission. Under SAM, the Academia works together with the All European Academies (ALLEA), European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC), Euro-CASE and Federation of European Academies of Medicine (FEAM) to form a consortium called Science Advice for Policy by European Academies (SAPEA).
The Academia is the pan-European academy of science, humanities and letters, with a membership of over 3800 eminent scholars, drawn from all countries of Europe, and all disciplines, nationalities and geographical locations. Election to the Academia is widely considered to be one of the highest honors that a European scientist or scholar may receive. Its current members include 73 Noble laureates, 15 Fields medalists and 6 Turing Award winners.
Prof. NIE Zhenzhao is granted membership thanks to his tremendous contributions to ethical literary criticism. His election is one of the crowning achievements that ZJU has made since the launch of the “Philosophy and Social Science Development” Plan, the “Academic Master” Plan and the “Globalization and Reputation Promotion” Project.
