2019-01-09

On Jan. 8, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council held a grand ceremony for national science and technology awards in recognition of the remarkable contributions of distinguished scientists, engineers and researchers to scientific and technological progress, social and economic development as well as the modernization of national defense. ZJU clinched one first prize in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, two second prizes in the State Technological Invention Award and one second prize in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.

The project of “Key Technologies and Applications of Composite Foundation Theory” headed up by Prof. GONG Xiaonan from the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture won the first prize in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award. To cater to the urgent demand for the construction upon soft ground, researchers have engaged in groundbreaking work in terms of the composite foundation theory, high-performance composite foundation technologies and applications of composite foundations through 30-year persistent efforts. They have also compiled major norms and criteria regarding composite foundations and formulated a complete engineering application system. These research findings have enjoyed extensive applications in various construction fields, such as architecture, highways, high-speed railways, intra-urban roads, airports and harbors, thereby reaping enormous economic and social benefits.

The project of “Novel Technology of Molecular Identification and Separation of Natural Bioactive Homologues and Its Application” led by Prof. REN Qilong from the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering won the second prize in the State Technological Invention Award.

The project of “Key Technology in Making High-Toughness Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Composites in Major Structures” headed up by Prof. XU Shilang from the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture won the second prize in the State Technological Invention Award.

The project of “Key Technology in Preparation of Pantoprazole Sodium and Its Industrialization” headed up by Prof. HU Fuqiang from the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences won the second prize in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
