2019-05-30

The 8th “Litree Cup” Chemistry Challenge was held on Zijingang Campus on May 18. After three rounds of competition, XIA Tian and YANG Lechen’s team won the championship for their solid chemical knowledge and outstanding performance.

The competition consists of fun chemistry facts quiz and creative idea presentation. Eight groups of students from the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering (DPSE) competed against each other.

During the creative idea presentation, students pitched their ideas under the theme of “Chemistry changes life”. Some proposed “Molecular Machines” that facilitates processing on the molecular scale; some put forward the idea of degradable plastic food wrap. There were also ideas like pro-hydrophobic materials for surface cleanliness and oil-absorbing aerogel for oil spills in the ocean. "I hope that you can always apply what you've learnt in your everyday life," said Prof. WANG Qi, deputy head of DPSE.

“Litree Cup” is an annual event organized by Student Association of Department of Polymer Science and Engineering to spread funny chemistry knowledge and increase students' interest in chemistry. Supported by Shenzhen Litree Purifying Technology, the competition has been held for eight years.
