2019-07-29

More than 60 students from across the Strait participated in a summer camp on Chinese martial arts starting on July 6.

Organized by ZJU, the five-day event featured thematic seminars and lectures, friendly matches and performances. It covered topics such as the spirits and values of martial arts, the standardization issue of martial arts development, and the relationship between martial arts and dancing.

“I learned from this summer camp that martial arts and Chinese culture are intertwined with each other. Martial arts do not only involve the art of attack and defense, but could also convey positive thoughts,” CHENG Yining, participant from Taiwan Sport University, said.

“The event helped me understand the educational function of martial arts and why it matters,” WANG Chenchen, participant from Beijing Sport University, said.

This is the second year for ZJU to hold cross-Strait summer camps on Chinese martial arts. The event is aimed at opening up the cultural horizon of its participants, strengthening their sense of identity with Chinese culture, and deepening the friendly tie among students across the Strait.

“It was truly a rare opportunity for me to interact with so many experienced martial arts athletes across the Strait,” HOU Tianyuan, participant from Shanghai University of Sport, said, “Their self-discipline, commitment and pursuit of excellence greatly impressed me.”
