Zhejiang University attaches great importtance to international
exchange and cooperation. The university and its subsidiary colleges and
departments now have links with more than 110 universities and their subsidiary
departments in 26 countries and regions.
In the past years, the university has been inviting renowned
scientists, scholars or experts with international fame to come over to
be honorary or guest professors, receive honorary academic degrees, give
lectures, do joint research or conduct joint graduate student training
programs. Among them are Kofi Annan, United Nations Secretary-General,
Stephen Hawking, a world- famous British theoretical physicist, David
Gross, the 2004 winner of Nobel Prize in Ohysics, and Robert Mundell,
the 1999 winner of Nobel Prize in economics. Their participation in the
educational and research programs of the university has been contributing
greatly to its development.

Zhejiang University and its subsidiary schools and departments have established

in over 26 countries and regions, including Cornell University and UDC
Davis in the United States, Imperial College of Science, Technology and
Medicine in Great Britain, Humboldt University and Technical University
of Berlin in Germany, University of British Columbia in Canada, Catholic
University of Louvain in Belgium, University of Western Australia in Australia,
Tokyo University and Waseda University in Japan, and National University
of Seoul and Korea University in Korea. With these formal relationships,
the university has put into operation various cooperative programs and
projects, such as student and scholar exchanges, international conferences
and symposiums, joint research and joint postgraduate tutoring.

Outgoing Visits
Every year, administrators and faculty members of this university are
sent abroad or to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to give lectures, receive
further education, conduct joint research or attend conferences and symposiums.
In the fall of 1999, President PAN Yunhe attended a meeting between Chinese
and American University Presidents at Harvard University, USA and a Conference
in Tokyo, Japan on Sino-Japan Scientific, Industrial and Technological
Exchanges, through which contacts have been established with top universities
and important business organizations in the two countries. In 1999, over
1,000 faculty members have been abroad and to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan
for conferences and joint research projects. Visits of these kinds have
been bringing about fruitful results in upgrading the teaching and research
work of the university.
