Joint Research Centers, Institutes and Foundations

In the university, there are around 30 research centers in the 22 schools and conducting joint research projects with various foreign academic entities.

* Zhejiang-California NanoSystems Institute, co-supported by Zhejiang Provincial Government, Zhejiang Universityand California NanoSystems Institute.
* James D. Watson Institute of Genome Sciences, Zhejiang University, established with the support of James D. Watson, president of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, USA
* Joint Centers of Clean Enery and Photonics in collaboration with KTH ( the Royal Institute of Technology), Sweden
* German Hanns-Seidel-Foundation supported Management Training Center
* Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital established with the support of Loma Linda University Medical Center, USA

Overseas Visitors

Every year, several hundreds of scholars and experts from many parts of the world are invited to Zhejiang University to give lectures or to do joint research. In 1999, Ferid Murad, winner of 1998 Nobel Prize for medicine and Samuel C. C. Ting, winner of 1976 Nobel Prize for physics, visited Zhejiang University, and renowned overseas scholars such as Raj Reddy, Dean of School of Computer Science from Carnage Mellon University and J. Carl Hsu, President of Bell Labs in Asia and Pacific, were awarded by the university such titles as honorary, guest or advisory professors. Apart from that, a number of long-term language experts and teachers from different countries are employed each year to help improve the university's teaching of foreign languages.

International Conference

Owing to its beautiful location, good reputation in academic circles both at home and abroad and its modern conference facilities, Zhejiang University hosts every year a number of international conferences. In 1999, quite a few influential conferences were held on in the university, among them are the Conference on Value Engineering and Technology Innovation of Enterprises and the 2nd Asia-Pacific EPR/ESR Symposium, which have not only promoted the international exchange and cooperation of the university, but also won favorable comments from national and international participants and enhanced considerably the university's renown in the world.
