Students in Zhejiang University With Fruitful Scientific Achievements

The 2nd students scientific achievements exhibition held recently in Zhejiang University provided a good opportunity for students to show various scientific achievements made by them.

In recent years, a series of student academic researches have been carried out in Zhejiang University, in order to arouse their interest in independent innovation and improve their abilities in practice. This year, they have carried out a number of activities like "Grasp the Future" science and technology intelligence competition, a selective trial for the National "Challenge Cup", the "Silicon Valley in Paradise" college student career design competition, campus landscape designing competition and "My University, My Web Site" web site designing competition. All these activities provided a broad stage for students to show their innovative abilities as well a good chance for them to communicate with each other.

The achievements on display have reflected three distinct characteristics of the student academic researches in Zhejiang University. First, more and more achievements represented an intersection of different disciplines, such as "the Multimedia Network for Comprehensive English Course Designing and Teaching" made by students from Foreign Language College. With the combination of the English courses and multimedia technology, the work becomes an update achievement in the field of teaching for English majors. Second, the research level of undergraduates rises rapidly. A paper written by a student in grade 97 majoring in macromolecule has been included in SCI index. Third, these academic researches are all dealing with practical and state-of-the-art problems like the 3D simulation and evaluation of the sight of the West lake after expansion westward, which has successfully proved the feasibility of this expansion and has won the top grade prize in the provincial "Challenge Cup" competition.

These academic activities have not only built up a strong academic atmosphere in the university, but also attracted many risk investment. Up till now, many of the students in Zhejiang University have got patents for their scientific achievements, and some have even started their undertaking.
