Academician Wei Yang Was Appointed as the President of Zhejiang University

In the morning of August 1, 2006, a decision of appointing Academician Wei Yang as the president of Zhejiang University was announced at a middle-level cadre convention organized by Zhejiang University. The decision was made by the CPC (Communist Party of China) Central Committee, and the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. The meeting was presided by Chancellor Xi Zhang.

Several central and provincial government leaders attended the meeting, and delivered important addresses. Both former president, current vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician Yunhe Pan, and new president, Academician Wei Yang, gave affecting speeches. Current and former leaders, academicians, Cheung Kong scholars, provincial experts, and all departmental principals from Zhejiang University, attended the event.
