University Presidents of WUN Visited Zhejiang University May 26, 2007
From May 22 to 23, 2007, on the eve of the President Conference of Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) held in Beijing, a group of delegations consisting of presidents of 8 WUN universities, led by David Pilsbury, the WUN principal, visited Zhejiang University. They listened to a report of update information of Zhejiang University, and had a discussion about interuniversity cooperation and exchange. President Wei Yang met the delegation at that event. WUN is an interdisciplinary collaboration organization with supporting innovation in research and education on a global scale. It was founded at London, UK, in 2002, and Zhejiang University is one of the initiators. It is a partnership of 18 research-led universities from Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America so far In May, 2006, Academician Yunhe Pan, former president of Zhejiang University and now a deputy president of Chinese Academy of Engineering, firstly attended the conference held in UK. And this year the conference would be held at Beijing from May 24 to 25, 2007. President Wei Yang will attend the conference. On May 23, 2007, Vice President Jun Zhu presided a roundtable conference at Yuquan Campus, and reviewed two platforms of “Program 985”. Meanwhile Vice President Chris Henshall from University of York introduced the university. During their visit, Vice Chancellor Gaoxiang Ye met the group delegations led by President Brian Cantor from University of York. Vice Presidents Jun Zhu and Jian Chu met Vice President Richard Williams from Leeds University, UK, respectively, and went on a discussion about cooperation between both sides. Finally, Brian Cantor gave a report at the NanoSystems Institute. |
