Zhejiang University Ranked First among Chinese Universities in Terms of Scientific and Technological Papers in 2006

On November 15, 2007, a press release on the 2006 statistic results of scientific and technological papers was held by Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC) in Beijing. According to the news, Zhejiang University ranked first among Chinese universities for 14,178 domestic and international papers. There are 3,034 papers, including Article, Review, and Letter, which were cited by SCIE. This was ranked first among Chinese universities. 2,760 papers were cited by EI, which was ranked third, and 1,432 papers were cited by ISTP, which ranked third. Moreover, 6,952 papers were cited by China Science and Technology Paper and Citation Database (CSTPCD), which ranked third.

Among papers cited by SCI, 6,615 times and 2,692 papers from Zhejiang University were cited, and Zhejiang University was ranked in the third palace among Chinese universities. Accumulated in recent ten years, 43,111 times and 13,490 papers were cited, and this makes Zhejiang University ranked second among Chinese universities, and 17,789 times of citation of domestic papers makes it ranked first.

Papers from Zhejiang University are cited by Medline, which ranks it first among Chinese universities, and there are 20 papers cited by SSCI, which ranks it in the fourth place.

Nine subjects of Zhejiang University are among the top twenty high-yield institutions for SCIE papers in terms of ten subjects. They are mathematics (2nd), physics (6th), chemical (1st), earth science (16th), biological (1st), medical (2nd), agriculture (2nd), materials (4th), and environment (3rd).

74 papers, including Article, Review, and Letter, from the First Affiliated Hospital of Medical College in Zhejiang University, were cited by SCIE, and it was ranked sixth among Chinese medical institutions. Meanwhile, 64 papers, from the Second Affiliated Hospital, made it ranked in the ninth place.

Compared with the 2005’s statistic results, the number of papers cited by SCIE rose Zhejiang University to the first place from the second one in terms of the ranking of Chinese universities, and it is the first time for the number of papers to break through 3000. The number of papers cited by SCI was raised from the fifth place to the third. Meanwhile that of accumulated SCI citation was raised from the third place to the second. These are important evidences that the quantity and quality of papers from Zhejiang University are steadily improved.
