The past few years has witnessed remarkable development in the domain of robotics. Since its establishment in 2001, the Robotics Laboratory of the College of Control Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, has made a series of significant achievements in high-speed visual sensing, flexible kinetic designing and precise balance controlling. The table tennis robot system and the soccer robot system have riveted massive attention from various research institutes and mass media both at home and abroad. On March 22, the National Geographic Channel came to the Robotics Laboratory to film part of its documentary themed “Machine: Impossible”.

This documentary consists of 6 special subjects: We Don’t Need Roads, Serve & Project, Super Humans, Game On, Personal Transport and Man (Not) At Work. It deals exclusively with a constellation of sophisticated and distinctive smart devices and robots and is set to be released to the whole world this September.

The camera crew of the National Geographic Channel captured a series of shots about Wu and Kong, two robots designed by the Robotics Laboratory. The two robots displayed unparalleled skills in playing table tennis. Meanwhile, the camera crew also filmed the soccer robot team, which demonstrated stunning defense and offense maneuvers.
