The 20th China Patent Awards Conference was held in Beijing on Dec. 25. The Method for Preparing Stable-type Vitamin A Microcapsules Continuously, invented by ZJU scholars, garnered the WIPO-CNIPA Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Inventions.

This year, a total of 30 patents won the WIPO-CNIPA Award, which is the most prestigious award in the domain of patents in China award. Among gold-prize winners was The Method for Preparing Stable-type Vitamin A Microcapsules Continuously, headed by Prof. CHEN Zhirong and YIN Hong from the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering and jointly undertaken by Zhejiang University, Zhejiang NHU Company Ltd. and Beijing University of Chemical Technology.

This technology is a major breakthrough in making stable Vitamin A microcapsules in an energy-efficient manner. “It can reduce energy consumption by at least 90%, improve product stability by over 100%, and be applied to the manufacturing of microcapsules of Vitamin D3, Vitamin E and carotenoids. So far, the sales of this product have amounted to 10.4 billion yuan thanks to its solid industrialization basis and extensive application. The market for this product is expected to be expanded in the future,” said CHEN Zhirong in an interview.
