Senior delegation returns from Norway and Sweden

Zhejiang University recently concluded a successful weeklong trip to Norway and Sweden, where Vice President WANG Lizhong led efforts to create new intercultural and international opportunities for ZJU students and faculty.

The delegation first visited the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) and were warmly welcomed by Mr. Thomas Langford, Executive Director of NGI. Two institutions agreed to take the lead in promoting scientific research cooperation and joint training of talents in several fields, including offshore energy and environmental engineering.  

At the University of Oslo, Wang Lizhong held friendly talks with Vice-President Ase Gornitzka. The partnership between two university is dated back to 2010. In April 2018, two presidents signed a letter of intent to establish a strategic partnership to build a "China-Norway Center for Environmental and Social Governance Research".

The delegation also visited Norwegian University of Science and Technology,met with Anne Borg, Vice-President of Norway University of Science and Technology. A memorandum of understanding on inter-university cooperation was signed to forge cooperation in research cooperation, scholar visits and student exchanges.

The last stop of the delegation is the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology. Wang and Professor Stefan Ostlund, Vice President of the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology highly affirmed the cooperation foundation and growth potential of the two institutions in many domains, including research in energy, optoelectronics and other disciplines, as well as in student and faculty exchanges. Two universities will further explore multiple ways to expand the cooperation in construction, electrical engineering, computer science and technology, management and other disciplines.

During the trip, ZJU delegation visited the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in Norway and Sweden. They also met with many ZJU alumni and friends of the university in the regions to strengthen those connections.
