ZJU postgraduate students clinch 3 prizes in the iF DESIGN AWARD 2020

2020-10-27

The winners of the iF DESIGN AWARD 2020 were announced recently. Three works designed by postgraduate students from the Zhejiang University School of Software Technology clinched the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD: “Anchor Helen”, “Sweet Breath” and “Alcohol Less”.

“Anchor Helen” is a device designed for blind voice anchors, including two modules: a Braille teleprompter and a recording microphone. “We do hope that everyone is entitled to lead a better life as we are and that the world will be teeming with love and care,” said one of the team members.

“Sweet Breath” is a customized breathing trainer for a special cohort of children with asthma. It aims at helping children recover more efficiently and reduce physical and psychological pain and discomfort associated with the disease through a playful and interactive experience. This work also won the iF RED DOT DESIGN AWARD.

“Alcohol Less” is a glass designed for those who cannot binge-drink. “We observe that there is a cartoon figure in the middle of a beautiful crystal ball. The ball is transparent and aesthetically appealing. With liquid flowing in it, it looks like a glass filled with wine. The raised figure in the middle can squeeze out some of the liquid. It is where our flash of inspiration comes from,” said SHI Yuhong, a postgraduate student in Industrial Design Engineering. Those who cannot drink a lot of wine can use this glass which serves dual purposes. They can express their respect for others and satisfy their real need to drink less. “Health warnings don’t have to be somber and dry. This is a product that helps people drink in moderation,” remarked the jury of the iF DESIGN AWARD 2020.

Established in 1953, the iF DESIGN AWARD is one of the most celebrated design competitions in the world. Winning an iF DESIGN AWARD is a seal of quality for exceptional design and outstanding services. For consumers and users, it is a symbol they can trust.
