Professor LEE Der-Horng named dean of ZJU-UIUC Institute

The ZJU-UIUC Institute formally inaugurated Prof. LEE Der-Horng as the Institute’s dean on October 27.

Prof. HE Lianzhen, vice president of Zhejiang University, extended her warm welcome to Prof. Lee on behalf of the University. “Prof. Lee will play a vitally important role in advancing the University’s engineering discipline to the forefront of the world. I hope that the International Campus will create a favorable environment for Prof. Lee and build a fantastic joint research platform,” she said.

“It is my great honor to join the International Campus and the ZJU-UIUC Institute. I will learn from my colleagues in research and teaching and contribute all I can to this community,” said Prof. Lee.

Prof. Lee was graduated with his PhD degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 1996. Prior to ZJU, Prof. Lee was a tenured professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS). He is an elected Fellow of Academy of Engineering Singapore (SAEng) which signifies the recognition of Prof. Lee’s stellar leadership and career achievements in the field of engineering. At the year of his SAEng Fellowship conferment in 2017, Prof. Lee was then the youngest as well as the first elected SAEng Fellow in Transportation. He was an Honoree of 2002 TR100 Award (renamed to TR35 in 2005) by MIT’s Technology Review. In 2015, Prof. Lee was elected as a Fellow of Institution of Engineers Singapore and the inaugural batch of Chartered Engineer of transportation engineering and the assessor in Singapore. Prof. Lee is ranked among top 1% in the area of Logistics and Transportation in “World’s Top 2% Scientists 2020” published by Stanford University.
