No More Rainy Days!

2023-06-13

Sure, some people may think that rainy days are romantic and fresh. Just as in the movie A Rainy Day in New York when young men and women on campus fall in love deeply and passionately in the falling raindrops. Or as in the song Here Comes the Rain Again: “Baby walk with me like lovers do. Kiss me like lovers do. Here comes the rain again.” How romantic and loving it is on a rainy day! Or as in the poem Summer Shower by Emily Dickinson where the poet pictured “A drop fell on the apple tree, Another on the roof; A half a dozen kissed the eaves, And made the gables laugh.” How fresh and cozy it is in light rain! However, they are only delusions in the artistic world, in movies, songs, and poems. Welcome to the real world where the unbearable humidity, squashy clothes, and muddy watery shoes can easily drive you crazy. Let alone all the unexpected disturbance and inconvenience caused by the continuous precipitation. No wonder there are so many rainy-day-haters.

I’m a typical rainy-day-hater. The precipitation makes everything around cold, wet, squashy, muddy, and dirty. The first thing is my never-dry clothes. It always takes over three days to make them dry. Next comes my always-dirty shoes. It is weird that no matter how far I try to stand away from the puddles and grass, there is always a thick deposit of mud on my shoes. Then is the highly-likely-muddy floor of my dormitory. When finally trudged dormitory, it is common that the floors are drenched with mud and water. It’s also intriguing that the weather forecast cannot forecast every possible rain, so I have to keep an umbrella nearby, just in case.

Being a typical rainy-day-hater, I want to remind those who are smitten with “romantic” rainy days that on A Rainy Day in New York, when Here Comes the Rain Again, wear more clothes to avoid catching a cold when “walking with me like lovers do”. Also when in the Summer Shower, stand away from “the apple tree”, “the roof”, “the eaves” and “the gables” so there won’t be a thick deposit of mud on your shoes. Sincerely hope that there will be fewer rainy days in Hangzhou!
