Let’s have a Spring Date in Zijingang Campus

2023-08-04

Spring is always a season of flowers. When it’s getting warmer and warmer, flowers appreciation becomes again a hot outing theme. If you are NOT allergic to flower pollens and wished to enjoy the spring blossoms in college, do not hesitate to check out this non-professional admiring guide!

1. Plum Blossom

With their characteristic of cold resistance, plum blossoms are always the first flowers to bloom after the freezing times of winter, usually between February and March. Symbolizing courage, hope, and new life, their blossoms initiate the beginning of spring. Grown near the Qiushi Lecture Hall, they add to the Chinese ancient atmosphere, making it even more appealing.

2. Yulan Magnolia

Opposite the FengWei Canteen, streets adorned with blossoms of pink and white yulan magnolias are always popular attractions in ZJU. From March to May, their fragrance and fallen petals often embellish the alleys where students pass by daily, commuting between their dormitories and classrooms. The magnolias accompany them on their way, creating a delightful atmosphere.

3. Cherry Blossom (Sakura)

A cherry tree might only remain in bloom for one to two weeks, so be mindful of its peak bloom, which usually occurs in April, to prevent missing this fascinating scenery. Just behind the School of Medicine, these beautiful pink flowers bloom, and scholars, armed with phones and cameras (including myself, of course), never miss the opportunity to capture their beauty in time.

4. Tulip and Narcissus

With the suitable temperature during April to May, various types of flowers start to blossom hand in hand. However, without a doubt, the tulips and narcissuses that appear by the Qizhen Lake are always the most gorgeous. It's the perfect spot to take a deep breath of nature after loads of studying and homework.
