Countless Reasons that We Sing

2023-09-19

On July 8th, I boarded the plane and joined the Wenqin Chorus of Zhejiang University on a journey to South Korea to participate in this year's World Choir Games. Up to this point, I am still immersed in those wonderful memories, recalling every happy moment.

In fact, just a few days before our departure, I was still worried about whether I would be able to go. I was so anxious that if I didn't perform well in another assessment, I could have been excluded from the team. This experience is truly precious to me and holds a special place in my life.

We rehearsed on the hotel's rooftops with a sea view, singing together outside competition venues. Competitors with various skin types greeted us with smiles and said 'good luck’. We ate together and laughed wildly. After the rehearsal, we traveled through the streets and alleys of Seoul. We hung out beside the ocean at night, singing Taylor Swift's 'Love Story' and feeling so beloved in music. The power of music deeply surprised me, and everyone's goodwill and sincerity collided in the chorus. When I received a smile from girls from Europe eye to eye and cheered for each other with teams from South Africa, I shouted in my heart countless times that music is the best thing in the world.

The most impressive moment should be the moment when our name was announced on the radio. The champion is... Wenqin Chorus of Zhejiang University! I don't know how to describe my feelings at that time, and I can't help but cry at the thought of that moment up until now. It was so incredible that we just screamed and ran to the stage. We hugged each other, our hands held tightly, and facing the raised national flag, we loudly sang our national song. The lights, cheers, laughter, and tears still seem so unreal. That's us. With members from different majors and grades, we use countless hours of love and training to perform on stages that belong to us.

Just as the lyrics, we have countless reasons to sing. Maybe we don’t express ourselves well with language, and sometimes we don’t have the strength to show our true selves, but in music, we just sing, and we'll get to know each other and feel beloved.
