Capture Moments, Share Stories

We will look back on our time here with pleasant memories of the Games, as well as the people we have met and the friends we have made. These are the words penned by a foreign media producer in my notebook on the closing day of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. I will undoubtedly treasure my memories of volunteering at the Asian Games forever.

I was a Logistics Assistant to the Head Broadcaster (HB) at the Main Media Centre (MMC), aiding the HB English commentary team with logistics requirements such as interpretation, daily meal bookings at various sports venues, as well as coordinating transport and hotel reservations. Residing at the MMC, a true communication hub, I embraced the diversity of countries, colors, and cultures. While the work could be repetitive at times, it consistently provided me with numerous delights and memorable moments.

Capture the touching moments of work

The work was challenging at the beginning, as I was entirely new to logistics coordination. I even couldn't tell the commentators' faces apart in the first couple of days. Cab drivers occasionally dropped off the commentators at the wrong entrance of the sports venue, and the meal boxes might mistakenly contain food that the commentators were allergic to. Responding quickly to these emergencies became a constant demand. I did my best, but perfection remained elusive.

However, despite the challenges, I received no complaints from them. On the contrary, what I received were letters of appreciation, sincere gratitude, hugs, and warm praise for my dedication.

Capture the moments of cultural communication

Sports and culture were closely intertwined during the Asian Games. The mascot combination, Memories of Jiangnan, symbolizes the three world cultural heritages of Liangzhu Ancient City, the Grand Canal, and West Lake. The emblem, Tides Surging, embodies the spirit of advancing tides. The passion of the Asian Games resonates with Chinese culture throughout. At the MMC, foreign journalists were captivated by stunning cultural activities such as the Mid-Autumn Festival market, Chinese calligraphy, and acupuncture and massage from traditional Chinese medicine. We exchanged pins and shared our love. More importantly, we embraced the diversity of Asian culture.

On Oct. 8th, the Games closed. Throughout the entire month, I spared no effort to exemplify the Olympic spirit and the spirit of volunteerism. Sports events may end, but sports will not, and neither will friendship and memory. So, let us work heart to heart towards a brighter, shared future.
