Go for social practice in vacations!

2024-03-07

The life at Zhejiang University is not confined to campus classes alone. During winter vacation, students also engage in extensive social practices. They utilize the winter break to conduct research and surveys at various destinations outside the university campus and then compile excellent research reports.

The social practice team I participated in, organized by ZJUST, visited Jiaxing, Shaoxing, and Huzhou during the winter vacation. We explored historical sites in those locations to learn about the heroic deeds of martyrs from the past. By commemorating these heroes and drawing inspiration from their spirit, our aim is to better inherit Chinese culture and revolutionary traditions.

On the southern bank of Taihu Lake, we traced revolutionary traces, continuing the journey of historical significance. This marked my first visit to Huzhou, a city steeped in revolution. Our first stop was the Qian Zhuangfei Memorial Hall. Adjacent to it lay the Martyrs Cemetery of Huzhou, where we paid our highest respects to the martyrs resting there. Through interviews with the staff of the Martyrs Cemetery, our team learned about their dedication to propaganda and education work. We also listened to them recount the spontaneous act of a girl from another province gilding the martyrs' tombstones. The echoes of past sacrifices, resonating with the gratitude of later generations, deeply touched us.

The team members arrived at the former site of the New Fourth Army Su-Zhe Military Region. Through interviews with the staff, the members learned that it represented the profound friendship between the military and civilians at that time. In order to conduct an in-depth investigation into the views of people of different ages and professions on the protection of red culture, the team conducted questionnaire surveys and interviews with tourists and villagers. They extracted valuable information, proposed innovative improvement plans, and contributed to the development of red cultural tourism.

This event not only allowed me to visit the red base and understand revolutionary culture, but also enabled me to gain insights into research methods and increased my courage and confidence in communicating with passersby and conducting interviews with staff. It was a memorable experience and a colorful stroke in my campus life.
