A snake created a stir on the Zhejiang University's Zijingang Campus on May 21, around 2 pm. Ou Ruizhe, a second-year environmental engineering student, had a close encounter with the creature while cycling near Building 3 in Chengjunyuan.

It was colossal, thick, and remarkably long, described Ou. Just before the snake slithered into the grass, he swiftly captured a photo and promptly posted it on the campus forum, eliciting a mix of concerned and reassuring responses from the student community.

Senior student Zhong Xuan was particularly alarmed by Ou's post. Having had a lifelong aversion to snakes, she expressed genuine concern for the safety of her fellow students on campus. Her sentiments resonated with many of her peers.

Chen Yiwen, a mechanical engineering graduate student, also came across the snake's photo. Judging by the vertical stripes on both sides of the snake's back in the picture, she identified it as a non-venomous black snake. She shared her knowledge about snakes on the forum, including common snake species and advice on handling snakebites. I hope students won't panic when they encounter snakes and can handle the situation calmly, she said.

Yang Yuekai from the school's security office stated that when students seek help regarding snakes, they will make every effort to capture the reptiles safely and release them into the wild. He emphasized that eliminating snakes on campus is illegal, and it's crucial that we learn to protect ourselves.
