Filming Diary for My Second Year

2025-05-06

Did you ever imagine yourself being part of a theater production? It’s the kind of experience I never would have considered before — back then, I would have thought there was no way I’d ever go down that path. But now, here I am, right in the middle of it!

I’m an undergraduate student in the Audiovisual Communication program, Chua Cheng Fei. As I enter my second year, my major courses have begun, with the first two being Short Film Creation and Audiovisual Language. As you can tell from the course names, I’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice filming, and I’ll even be required to create my own short films — which is how the idea for this crew shooting diary came about! I feel incredibly fortunate to have a team of reliable and talented teammates. We each have our own areas of expertise, and together, we make a perfect team. Although my teammates come from different countries, including Malaysia, Korea, and Japan, there’s no barrier in communication. We all actively share our filming ideas every time we meet.

Each of our shoots was truly memorable for me. The images of us staying up all night brainstorming the script, filming through the night, and editing into the early hours are all so beautiful. The most unforgettable moment was when we started shooting at midnight. Despite the bad weather that day — with the rain only getting heavier — we were not discouraged. The whole team worked together until 3 a.m. I was exhausted, but I loved every moment of it. There’s something really special about working together toward a common goal, and it’s only when you fully immerse yourself in the process that you truly feel it.

Although we filmed a lot for the two different courses, the film we created from those shoots went on to win the Best Actor Award during the final presentation of the course. At that moment, we all felt that the hard work we put in during those days was absolutely worth it!

Filming has always been something I love, and working behind the scenes is an area I’ve been eager to explore. This fall semester, I feel like I’ve learned so much — both technically and in terms of how to work effectively within a team. Moreover, through this semester’s classes, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the hard work of the behind-the-scenes crews. Every successful movie or TV show is supported by a group of silent contributors, and it’s crucial that we don’t overlook the efforts of everyone involved, whether they’re actors or crew members.

In conclusion, I want to say that I will continue to work hard for what I love and keep moving forward on this path!
