Being a Volunteer in the Warm Morning Light Program

2025-05-19

The Warm Morning Light program is one of the volunteer initiatives under the Caring Heart Club at Zhejiang University. It’s dedicated to supporting the children of the university’s logistics workers by providing them with care, companionship, and enriching experiences. I was honored to be part of this program for a year, where each volunteer was paired with a child to ensure they felt engaged and valued.

Every week, we organized various activities for the children—treasure hunts across campus, arts and crafts, geography sharing sessions, and more. One of my most unforgettable experiences was making dumplings together. It was my first time, and, to my surprise, the child I was paired with ended up teaching me how to fold dumplings properly! We laughed through the messy process, figuring it out side by side.

Beyond that, we shared many small but heartwarming moments—eating ice cream on sunny afternoons, designing paper clothes, and simply enjoying each other’s company. These memories have become some of the most cherished parts of my university life.

Although it meant giving up part of my weekends, it was absolutely worth it. Volunteering not only allows you to give back but also brings unexpected joy and personal growth. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend joining a program like this—you won’t regret it!
