Finding Love in Med School — In More Ways Than Just One

People often say med school is all about endless lectures, late-night study sessions, and caffeine-fueled cramming — and they’re not wrong. But what they don’t always mention is that amidst all the chaos, you find something truly unexpected: love.

And no, I’m not just talking about romance (though that’s part of the story too). I mean the kind of love that grows from friendship — those ride-or-die study buddies who quiz you on anatomy at 2 AM, friends who generously share their notes when you miss a class, and the people who celebrate every small victory with you, whether it’s acing a quiz or simply making it through a tough week.

Med school doesn’t just shape future doctors — it builds a community. There’s something powerful about shared struggles that forges an unspoken bond. It’s in the quiet nods of encouragement before an exam, the group study sessions that effortlessly turn into heartfelt conversations at midnight, and the comforting sense of belonging when you’re surrounded by people who truly understand.

You don’t have to explain the stress or exhaustion — they’re living it too. And somewhere along the way, those classmates become more than just study partners — they become your support system, your second family.

But for me, the journey didn’t end with friendship. Somewhere between the stacks of textbooks and late-night study sessions, I found something more — my person. It wasn’t a whirlwind, movie-like romance, no grand gestures or slow-motion moments. Instead, it was a quiet, comforting presence that gradually grew into something real.

So yes, med school has taught me a lot about the human body — the bones, the muscles, the intricate workings of the heart. But beyond the textbooks, it has also taught me about a different kind of heart. The one that beats a little faster when you’re with the right person.

Who knew that while studying the human heart, mine would find its match?
