Half-Day Trip in Hong Kong

2025-06-13

When the idea of a half-day trip to Hong Kong popped up in my mind, my friends and I immediately decided to make it a reality. We woke up early in the morning and bought our high-speed railway tickets to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station from Shenzhen. Then, we changed some Hong Kong Dollars at the money changer, as most stalls in Hong Kong only accept cash or the smart payment card called the Octopus Card. After consideration, we decided to change some HKD to buy an Octopus Card, which will be more convenient for us to take the railway.

It just took us 15 minutes from Shenzhen to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. We reached there at 9.45 a.m. and we are on time to have a Hong Kong-style breakfast. We headed to Dragon City Café, a café which is recommended by many netizens on RedNote. With high expectations, the look of the food disappointed us; it didnt look yummy. But we underestimated its taste, it was nice and delicious. We had a Polo bun, Peanut Butter French Toast and a bowl of squid noodle. Their looks were nothing special but their taste was superb! We also had the signature beverage of Hong Kong, which is Hong Kong-style milk tea. It was slightly bitter to us but it was all fine after adding some sugar.

Then, we went to a building where most films, cameras, gadgets and accessories are sold. We didnt buy anything because the price was no cheaper than the online shop. We continue walking to a popular bakery with the best pudding bun in town. Unfortunately, we went there too early as the pudding buns started selling only at 4.30 p.m.. Not making it an unworthy walk, we still bought a pistachio baked bun. Out of our expectations, the bun tastes nice too.

After walking a few minutes, we took the transit train to Tsim Sha Tsui Station. Under the hot weather, we quickly got to Avenue of Stars. It was the place where they honoured the Hong Kong film industrys celebrities with their handprints keeping there. We enjoyed looking at the celebrities handprints as we had been watching their films when we were still little.

The weather was boiling. So, we started feeling thirsty and wanted a cold beverage so bad. We headed to Lan Fong Yuen milk tea due to its historical significance and its amazing taste. The milk tea there wasnt the cheapest but undeniably a yummy one. Their milk tea has a bold taste and smooth taste when you drink. A cold beverage in the hot weather was truly a life saver.

Before returning to Shenzhen, we went to a bakery we saw nearby. We bought a lot of Polo Buns to be souvenirs for our friends. Other than a Polo bun, I also bought some egg tarts and crispy chicken biscuits. These are also significant foods in Hong Kong.

I enjoy this precious half-day trip during the busy schedule. Hong Kong gave me a feeling like home as I heard people speaking Cantonese, which made me think of my home. I believe I will revisit Hong Kong in a short time in the near future.
