A week of philosophical exploration: my online journey with Professor Dutt

2025-10-28

As a Zhejiang University student passionate about the humanities, I recently participated in a five-day online philosophy exchange program led by the renowned German Professor Dutt. This virtual journey, from June 12th to 16th, became an unexpectedly transformative experience that deepened my understanding of both philosophy and myself.

Each afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00, I would settle at my desk in the dormitory, laptop open and notebook ready, connecting with fellow philosophy enthusiasts from around the world. My initial hesitation on the first day—worrying about language barriers and philosophical knowledge—quickly melted away as Professor Dutt fostered an atmosphere of warm intellectual curiosity. His approachable teaching style and insightful comments made complex philosophical concepts both accessible and engaging.

What surprised me most was how philosophy came alive through digital connection. The breakout room discussions became spaces where cultural boundaries disappeared, and we focused on universal human questions. I particularly enjoyed our sessions on philosophical reading methods and argument construction, which have already sharpened my academic skills. The daily writing exercises challenged me to articulate my thoughts more clearly and thoughtfully.

This experience taught me that physical distance cannot limit meaningful intellectual exchange. I return to my Zhejiang University courses with renewed passion and a broader perspective, reminded that the pursuit of wisdom transcends all boundaries. The connections made and insights gained during these five days will continue to inspire my academic journey long after the program has ended.
