A magical day in Shanghai Disneyland

On November 19th, I had one of the most memorable and magical days of the semester—a spontaneous day trip to Shanghai Disneyland with my friends. Since it was a free Wednesday with no classes, we decided to take a break from our busy schedules and escape into the world of Disney. We pre-booked a chauffeur, which turned out to be one of our smartest decisions. The cost was nearly the same as taking the high-speed train, but the door-to-door comfort made the long travel hours much easier—especially considering we left at 6 a.m. and didn’t return until around 10:30 p.m.

Our first attraction of the day was Dumbo the Flying Elephant, often referred to as one of Disney’s “Eight Wonders of the World.” After experiencing it myself, I finally understood why it holds such an iconic status. Inspired by Disney’s 1941 classic, the ride draws from the touching story of Dumbo and his mother. Dumbo, with his oversized ears, discovers his ability to fly and becomes a symbol of courage, innocence, and self-discovery.

Soaring gently above the park on Dumbo’s back was both nostalgic and heartwarming. It made me appreciate why this ride left such a deep impression on audiences when it first debuted — truly deserving the title of the legendary eighth wonder.

The weather that day felt like a blessing — a crisp 7 to 11 degrees, paired with a bright blue sky and sunshine that stayed with us from morning to evening. Although the queues were long due to the year-end travel season, the festive atmosphere made every minute worthwhile. By the end of the day, I had experienced seven attractions in total.

We were incredibly lucky to visit Disneyland during its winter season. The entire park was beautifully decorated, and the winter parade was without a doubt one of the highlights. Seeing all the characters dressed in their adorable winter outfits added an extra layer of magic to the experience.

My favourite attraction was Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, an immersive experience that truly makes you feel like you're part of the Zootopia storyline. I also pushed myself out of my comfort zone and rode the first roller coaster of my life — the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train! To my surprise, it turned out to be the perfect introduction to thrilling rides — exciting but not overwhelmingly scary.

We ended the night with Disneyland’s magical fireworks — a truly breathtaking finale to an unforgettable one-day adventure.
