The autumn in Zhejiang University

2026-01-08

When it comes to my favorite season, it’s actually autumn. This is my second year at Zhejiang University’s Zijingang campus, and also my second autumn here. Like autumn in other southern cities in China, Zijingang’s autumn is golden with hints of green, still brimming with vitality even as some plants begin to go dormant.

Autumn has arrived—osmanthus flowers fill the air with fragrance, maple leaves turn red, and the waters of Qizhen Lake remain calm and clear. Every noon, like other students who enjoy warmth, I like to sit on a chair in East Building or lie on the large lawn in the West District, basking in the gentle autumn sunshine. The warmth of the sun seems to chase away any lingering cold, and people feel cheerful. On sunny days, we run and play on the lawn, chatting about the little things we love—it’s pure joy. After class, you can ride your bike across the sunlit campus, pick up a fallen leaf from the teaching building, and take photos with friends to capture the fleeting beauty of autumn.

Autumn is also the season for eating hairy crabs. I really enjoy them—their unique freshness and aroma are irresistible. However, separating the meat from the shell can be tricky; the true delight of eating crabs is reserved for those with patience. Fortunately, the school cafeteria sells hairy crabs at an affordable price. They are large and delicious. As I savor these crabs while enjoying the autumn scenery of Zijingang, I feel truly happy and content this season!

I share with you the joy of autumn.
