Everywhere you look, gold: blue sky above, yellow leaves beneath

2026-01-19

Time passes, and the scenery changes.

It is not only the seasons that transform,

But also the colors of leaves on the branches.

Have you ever noticed

The sunlight slipping through the swaying leaves,

Scattering patches of dappled light?

Ginkgo

Ginkgo is a large, deciduous tree from the ginkgo family.

It loves sunlight, grows deep roots, and can live for many years.

Its leaves are fan-shaped with long stems.

The Ginkgo seeds can also be used in medicine.

Green leaves turned to gold.

Looking up, you see yellow butterflies resting on the branches.

Looking down, the ground glitters like molten gold.

It speaks no words, yet writes a poem on the earth.

Soapberry

The soapberry, a deciduous tree in the soapberry family,

has a broad, oval-shaped crown and pinnate compound leaves.

In autumn, the leaves turn lemon yellow.

It produces yellow-brown fruits that can be used to make soap.

Also called ‘Bodhi seed,’ it symbolizes peace and safety.

The pinnate leaves turn a warm yellow,

Bright, but never flashy.

Its fruits are natural soap,

and a little water brings out a fine, soft foam.

The name ‘Wu Huan’ means peace.

This tree, planted with good wishes,

Stands quietly in a corner of the campus,

Watching over every student who walks beneath it.
