My third participation in the New Year Gala

2026-04-08

This year marked my third time participating in the International Education College’s New Year Gala, and it felt more meaningful than ever. I once again joined the working group, this time as the leader of the Makeup and Styling Team, taking full responsibility for designing and executing performers’ makeup, as well as coordinating related tasks to ensure everything ran smoothly.

The preparation leading up to the gala was extremely busy but rewarding. Together with other core members of the Makeup and Styling Team, I carefully reviewed our existing cosmetics, tools, and accessories, created a detailed list of missing items, and handled the procurement process. We also communicated individually with each performer to understand their makeup and styling preferences, and compiled a comprehensive plan. In addition, we organized a training session for volunteers, covering basic makeup techniques and hairstyling for different performance styles. I also took part in program reviews. Although these tasks might seem straightforward, they required careful coordination and the ability to anticipate potential issues, such as schedule changes or last-minute makeup emergencies.

Besides my role in the working group, I was also a performer. I collaborated with the college’s traditional Chinese music ensemble to perform "Fallen Leaves Return to Roots," a classic piece that conveys deep feelings of homesickness. The rehearsal process was full of challenges. As chamber music demands a high level of teamwork and harmony, each member’s performance was crucial to the overall effect. Due to tight schedules and heavy academic workloads, it was difficult to find practice times that suited everyone. We also faced issues with coordination and rhythm, but through frequent rehearsals and constant communication, we ultimately delivered a satisfying performance.

Over the month-long preparation, I built stronger bonds with my teammates. Taking on a leadership role this year helped me become more responsible and improve my communication skills. I gained a deeper understanding of teamwork and dedication. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to grow alongside everyone, and I sincerely hope the college will continue to thrive and create even more wonderful memories in the coming year.
