UBD renewed its cooperation with Zhejiang University


UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) renewed its joint cooperation with China’s Zhejiang University (ZJU) through an agreement signed at the Emperor’s Court, Hua Ho Manggis yesterday.

Aside from continued partnership on Chemical Processing and  Engineering, ZJU President Professor Wu Zhaohui announced that new avenues of cooperation will be included such as Biodiversity, Information and Ecology.

Over the four years the partnership has allowed UBD students to study at ZJU for a year followed by six months of industrial training in one of Hengyi’s affiliated plants.

Upon completion of the programme, the students are employed by Hengyi Industries and stationed at its petroleum refinery at Pulau Muara Besar, which is currently under construction.

UBD has successfully produced 26 Chemical and Process Engineers who are now working with Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd and are currently undergoing their training in Shanghai as part of their career advancement training.

Singing on behalf of UBD’s Faculty of Integrated Technology was its Acting Deputy Dean Dr Hazwani Suhaimi, and Dr Zhang Lin signed on behalf of ZJU in his capacity as the Vice Dean of College of Chemical and Biological Engineering.

Witnessing the ceremony were Datin Dr Hjh Anita Binurul Zahrina Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Hj Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice Chancellor of UBD and Professor Wu Zhaohui, President of ZJU, and Qiu Jian Lin, chairperson of Hengyi Group of companies.

The joint agreement was also signed in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Energy and Industry, Dato Paduka Haji Matsatejo Sokiaw.
