Orientation week is at the beginning of each new semester, right after the date of registration. Exchange students are strongly advised to take part in the orientation as they will need to register for the courses during the orientation.
◉ Undergraduate Program
Students are affiliated to one of undergraduate faculties or schools and take undergraduate-level courses with Zhejiang University students.
Students admitted in this program with advanced level of Chinese language (e.g. HSK 5 or above) could also take courses on Chinese language and courses on Survey of China (both courses include 48 teaching hours per semester).
◉ Postgraduate Program
Students are affiliated to one of graduate schools and take graduate-level courses with Zhejiang University students.
Students admitted in this program could also take courses on Chinese language (32 teaching hours per semester) and courses on Survey of China (48 teaching hours per semester).
◉ Chinese Language Program
ZJU offers intensive courses on Chinese language and culture at different levels for international students. Students are to be placed in classes that suit them the best by taking a class placement test. The intensive Chinese language and culture program includes courses of reading, listening, practical conversation and writing. Students could take no more than 2 elective courses on Chinese society and culture per semester.
This is a non-credit program. However, a transcript will be provided to allow the home institution to evaluate based on their own policies.
Three grade system are used simultaneously in Zhejiang University, specially as follows:
1. The percentage system: Above 60 is passing, 100 is full mark;
2. Five degree grading: Excellence (A), Good (B), Fair (C), Passing (D), Failed (E).
3. Two degree grading: Passing (P), Failed (F).
1 credit at ZJU is equivalent to 16 teaching hours at ZJU.
· Full-degree undergraduate students at ZJU are required to get a minimum of 15 credits per semester and a total of 169 credits during their 4-5 years study program.
· Full-degree graduate students at ZJU are required to get a total of 26 credits during their 2-2.5 years study program.
· Full-degree PhD students at ZJU are required to get a total of 14 credits during their 3-3.5 years study program.
Currently we do not have any credit requirements for exchange students. Transcript will be sent to coordinator via email at the beginning of subsequent semester.
◉ For Chinese-taught Undergraduate/Graduate Courses
Applicants must have HSK certificate, generally with a score over 180 in HSK 5.
◉ For English-taught Undergraduate/Graduate Courses
Applicants from non-English-speaking backgrounds are required to provide an IELTS score of 6.0, a TOEFL iBT score of 88, or a CEFR B2 level certification. Alternatively, an official English proficiency certificate issued by the applicant’s home university (e.g., a language proficiency letter or medium-of-instruction statement) is also acceptable. IELTS retakes and TOEFL MyBest score are accepted.
Please contact ZJU coordinator to know the maximum number of exchange students we could accept for each semester.
◉ Home University Online Nomination:
The nomination link will be sent to the home university coordinators. (For internal use by partners only)
All application materials must be uploaded to the application system, including:
(1) A passport valid for at least six months after the program end date;
(2) Latest official English academic transcripts;
(3) A valid language proficiency certificate.
Application Note: Under ‘Source of Funding’, please choose ‘University-level Exchange Student’. No application fee is required.
◉ Admission Result:
Admission Notice can be downloaded from the Online Application System. Download link of the electronic Confirmation Form for Study in China /Information Form for Foreign Students Short-term Visit（for visa）will be sent to the permanent email address filled in the application system by the applicant. Admission result timelines may differ among different exchange programs.
According to the regulations of Ministry of Education, international students studying in China must purchase comprehensive medical insurance in mainland of China as a necessary requirement for their registration for the new semester. The insurance contains accidental injury medical treatment, outpatient medical treatment, inpatient medical treatment, death/disability insurance liability.

Accommodation will be automatically reserved but students still need to go through online booking procedures as per further notice released on the webpage of ZJU International College.
Exchange students will be arranged to stay on or near the university campus where their specialty College/Department is located. Usually students can check in within three days before registration.
Please prepare 800 RMB for refundable room deposit upon lodging in.

Zhejiang University offers international students rich opportunities to study as exchange students. The Student Exchange Program attracts students from our partner universities who wish to study at ZJU for one or two semesters and transfer credits to their home institutions. To be an exchange student, candidates must be officially nominated by their home institutions and pay the tuition fee to their home institutions. On-campus housing is provided.
