ZOU Xiaodong Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University

Professor Dr. ZOU Xiaodong assumed the role as Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Zhejiang University in June 2017. Prior to this appointment, he served as the University’s Vice Secretary from September 2008 to November 2012, Executive Vice Secretary (DG level) from November 2012 to June 2016, and Deputy Head of the Organization Department (DG level) of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee from July 2016 to May 2017.

Dr. ZOU began his career as the executive assistant to the President in August 1988 when he graduated from the University. From 1993 to 1999, he served as deputy director of the Office of the Presidents. He was party secretary and executive vice dean at Zhejiang University City College (ZUCC) from 1999 to 2005. From April 2005 to March 2009, he was head of the Organization Department of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University.

Dr. ZOU was also a representative of the 13th Zhejiang Provincial Party Congress and a member of the 11th CPPCC (Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference) Zhejiang Provincial Committee.

Dr. ZOU was born in 1967 in Hangzhou. He studied materials science and engineering from 1984 to 1988, and received his MA and PhD in Management Science and Engineering in 1994 and 2003 respectively from ZJU. From August 1995 to February 1997, he participated in a government-sponsored visiting scholar program at Indiana University Bloomington in the United States. 

WU Zhaohui Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Prof. Dr. WU Zhaohui is an alternate member of the 19th Central Committee of Communist Party of China. He was elected as the member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017. He also serves as director of the National Panel of Modern Service Industry, vice president of the China Association of Higher Education, and vice president of the Chinese Health Information Association.

Dr. WU’s major research is focused on computer science and technology. He was a chief scientist in the 973 Project and an information expert in the 863 Project. 

He was also a winner of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists, a first-tier talent in the National Talents Program, the second-prize winner of the China National Technological Invention Awards, the second-prize winner of the China National Scientific & Technological Progress Awards, and the winner of the Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation of the Ho Leung & Ho Lee Foundation. One of his studies was listed among the Ten Achievements in Science and Technology of Chinese Universities in 2016.

ZHENG Qiang Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Professor Dr. ZHENG Qiang has been in this position since December 2016. He is responsible for news and publicity, career guidance, art, and sports, etc.

Previously, Dr. ZHENG was president of Guizhou University (June 2012 – December 2016). From February 2009 to November 2012, he served as vice secretary of the Party Committee of ZJU. From June 2007 to February 2009, he was vice provost of ZJU. 

Dr. ZHENG received his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from ZJU in 1982, a master’s degree in Polymer Materials Science from the University of Science and Technology of Chengdu in 1988, and a doctor’s degree from Sichuan Union University in 1994 (co-supervised by Kyoto University). 

Dr. ZHENG’s expertise is focused on Polymer Rheology and the Structure and Properties of Polymer Materials. 

ZHU Shiqiang Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Professor Dr. ZHU Shiqiang has been in this position since January 2016. He is responsible for the management of ZJU's Zhoushan Campus and the Ningbo Institute of Technology. He currently also serves as director of the newly founded Zhejiang Lab

From June 2014 to January 2016, he was assistant president of ZJU and vice dean of the Ocean College. Previously, Dr. ZHU had assumed important positions in several municipal governments of Zhejiang province, including deputy mayor of Cixi (October 2002 – September 2005) and Zhoushan (December 2009 – August 2012). 

Dr. ZHU received a bachelor’s degree in Hydraulic Transmission and Control from ZJU in 1988, a master’s degree in Mechanical Manufacturing in 1991 from Beijing Institute of Technology, and a doctor’s degree in Fluid Transmission and Control from ZJU in 1995.  

Professor ZHU’s expertise is focused on Mechatronic Control.

YE Min Vice Secretary of the Party Committee

Dr. YE Min has been vice secretary of the Party Committee of ZJU since August 2017. His responsibilities include discipline inspection, policy research, trade union and staff congress, etc.

Previously, he was secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University City College (August 2014 – August 2017). From 2011 to 2013, he was vice president for education at Xinjiang Agricultural University. Before that, he had assumed many different roles at ZJU, including director of the Office of Graduate Admissions and director of the Office of the Presidents. 

From ZJU, Dr. YE received a bachelor’s degree in Inorganic and Non-metallic Materials in 1984, a master’s degree in Management in 1995, and a doctorate in Management in 2014.  

Dr. YE's research is focused on Higher Engineering Education and Education Management.

WU Zhaohui President

Prof. Dr. WU Zhaohui was named president of Zhejiang University in March 2015. He is an alternate member of the 19th Central Committee of Communist Party of China. REN Shaobo Executive Vice President

Dr. REN Shaobo has been executive vice president since July 2016. His responsibility covers campus management, real estate, capital construction, logistics, security, informatization, and development of liberal arts disciplines, etc.

Prior to this position, he was vice president of ZJU from January 2016. From December 2009 to December 2015, he served as vice secretary of the Party Committee of ZJU. While working as deputy director of ZJU’s Office of the Presidents, he spent the first half of 2004 as a visiting scholar at Valparaiso University, USA. 

Dr. Ren received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from ZJU in 1984, a master’s degree in Economics in 1990, and a doctor’s degree in Economics from the same university in 2012.   

Dr. Ren’s expertise is focused on Economics and Higher Education Management.

LUO Weidong Vice President

Professor Dr. LUO Weidong has been vice president of ZJU since December 2009. He is responsible for social services and regional cooperation, development and liaison, archives, publication, university journals, the university library and museum.

Previously, he served as assistant president of ZJU and executive dean of ZJU’s Academy of Social Sciences. While working at the former Hangzhou University, he stayed at Shizuoka University (Japan) as a visiting researcher from July 1994 to May 1995. 

Dr. LUO received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hangzhou University in 1982, a master’s degree from the same university in 1989, and a doctorate in Foreign Philosophy from ZJU in 2004.  

Dr. LUO's expertise is focused on Economics.

YAN Jianhua Vice President

Professor Dr. YAN Jianhua has been vice president of ZJU since July 2015, in charge of postgraduate education and academic affairs.

Dr. YAN was born in June 1962 in Ningbo city, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from Zhejiang University and got his bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees in 1982, 1985 and 1990 respectively. 

In 1985, he joined the Department of Thermal Physics at ZJU as an assistant professor. In 1991, he became associate professor of the Institute for Thermal Power Engineering of ZJU. From 1992 to 1993, he was a visiting professor at the Technical University of Nova Scotia, Canada. From 1994 to 1996, he was director of the National Laboratory of Clean Coal Combustion at ZJU. From 1993 to 1996, he was deputy director of the Institute for Thermal Power Engineering, ZJU. From October 1995 to January 1996, he was senior visiting scholar at the University of Tokyo. From 1996 to 2007, he was chairman of the Department of Energy Engineering, ZJU and director of the Design Institute of Energy Engineering, ZJU. Since 1995, he has been professor of the Department of Energy Engineering, ZJU. From 1999 to 2007, he was executive dean of the College of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, ZJU. 

From 2007 to July 2013, he was executive dean of the Graduate School of ZJU and vice provost of ZJU. Since 2002, he has been a Cheung Kong scholar of the Ministry of Education. Since 2012, he has been approved as chief scientist of State 973 project. From July 2013 to June 2015, he was vice secretary of the Party Committee of ZJU.

Dr. YAN's major research interests include clean combustion, pyrolysis and gasification, pollutant control, combustion acquisition, environmental protection in the energy conversion process and waste derived energy, etc. He has published 305 scientific papers and eight books. He owns 57 Chinese invention patents. He got one State Technology Invention Award (second prize), three State Science and Technology Progress Awards (second prize) and one State Innovation Team Award.

Dr. YAN served as co-chair of the Association of Chinese Graduate School (ACGS) from 2012 to 2016. He is a member of the Discipline Appraisal Group under the State Council. He is vice chairman of the National Alliance of Innovative Waste to Energy. He is also serving as director of the State Engineering Laboratory of Waste Incineration Technology.

LUO Jianhong Vice President

Professor Dr. LUO Jianhong has been vice president of ZJU since July 2013. He is responsible for undergraduate education, laboratories and equipment, and affiliated hospitals.

His previous roles include executive dean of the School of Medicine and director of the Center for Neuroscience at ZJU. He was a lecturer at Georgetown University School of Medicine from December 1999 to December 2001. 

Dr. Luo received his bachelor’s degree in Medicine from Zhejiang Medical University in 1982, a master’s degree in Microbiology and Immunology in 1987 from the former Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine (now China CDC), and a doctorate in Pathophysiology from Zhejiang Medical University in 1997.

ZHANG Hongjian Vice President

Professor Dr. ZHANG Hongjian has been vice president of ZJU since April 2014. He oversees the management of human resources, continuing education, operational asset, logistics and the Architectural Design and Research Institute of ZJU, etc.

His previous positions include executive dean of the College of Information Science and Engineering, director of the Department of Human Resources, and director of the Organization Department at ZJU. 

Dr. ZHANG received his bachelor’s and masters’ degrees in Chemical Automation from ZJU in 1982 and 1985 respectively, as well as a doctorate in Thermal Engineering from Shanghai Institute of Mechanical Engineering in 1988.  

Dr. ZHANG’s expertise is focused on Measurement Technology and Automation.
