On June 29, the "Mon Then Lads" team, consisting of 4 students from ZJU’s Master Program in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Global Leadership (PIEGL), was proud to make it to the top 5 in the 2018 Siam Commercial Bank Future Leader Competition. The competition attracted 203 teams from 24 countries, and 12 teams that made it to the semi-final includes Shooting Stars from the National University of Singapore, Apostles from the University of Cambridge, Powered by FEP from the University of Porto and Go & Win from Peking University, etc.

Aisling Maguire (Ireland), Simohn Engelbrecht (South Africa), Ervings Gorelovs (Latvia), and Daithi O'Connell (Ireland) formed the team and represented Zhejiang University in the competition. They were tasked with pitching an impromptu in 99 seconds and completing a 5-hour case study and a 24-hour case study.

The "Mon Then Lads" team delved into cases concerning market realities such as digital disruption. Through the case studies, the team was given the opportunity to take a glimpse into the business operations and famous multinational corporations.

"The competition is one of the best experiences I've had. The cases we worked on gave me a great insight into the problems and cases corporations face today. We were put in high pressure situations throughout the journey," Daithi O'Connell said.

The team utilized their business knowledge and in-class theories to create a thorough analysis, provide ingenious solutions to the problem, propose a detailed implementation plan, and offer a robust financial outlook. With the remarkable performance of each member, the team was awarded the top 5 in the competition.

"We are aware of our strengths and weaknesses, and with each new experience we were able to leverage these capabilities to our advantage, and learn from aspects that could go better when working in an environment under pressure on insights less familiar with. We were proud to represent Zhejiang University and the PIEGL program." Simohn Engelbrecht said.

SCBFLC is Thailand’s first business case competition for master’s degree students. The history of SCBFLC goes back to 2014 when Siam Commercial Bank and Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University has joined hand for a commitment to promoting learning and developing the potentials of next-generation leaders. Participants are challenged by a team of judges including top business leaders, industry experts and academic professionals.
