2018-09-26

The Italy Office of Zhejiang University Press was officially inaugurated on September 24. It is the first Chinese publishing house to be set up in Italy, dealing chiefly with the publication of Italian and English books. Consul YAN Jinlin from Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Florence, LUO Weidong, Vice President of Zhejiang University, Aleixandre, Vice Curator of the National Central Library of Florence, and LU Dongming, President of Zhejiang University Press, attended the plaque-unveiling ceremony.

“The Italy Office will publish those books that can mirror contemporary Chinese values, display the essence of Chinese culture and reflect ideological and cultural exchanges between China and Europe in the domains of culture, art, tourism and education. It will also host cultural and artistic events in the publishing sector,” said LU Dongming.

The first achievement of the Italy office is the release of the Italian version of Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake. This book is translated by Giorgio Casacchia, an eminent scholar in Chinese studies. It is the first time that Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake has been translated into Italian.

After the ceremony, Zhejiang University Press donated A Collection of Yuan Dynasty Paintings to the National Central Library of Florence.
