The Chinese Academy of Translation and Translation Studies of Zhejiang University established

The Chinese Academy of Translation and Translation Studies of Zhejiang University was officially inaugurated on Nov. 10.  

Vice President HE Lianzhen and Prof. XU Jun, director of the Chinese Academy of Translation and Translation Studies, unveiled the plaque for the Academy.

“We should promote the fusion of eastern and western cultures, encourage the groundbreaking innovation of the Chinese culture in a cooperative manner and invigorate the Chinese culture in an interdisciplinary way,” said President WU Zhaohui in his opening remarks. He hoped that the Academy would showcase China to the whole world in an authentic, explicit and comprehensive fashion and preserve the Chinese culture amid the evolving currents of the new era and the global exchange of world civilizations.

Three advisors—Le Clézio, a French writer and the 2008 Nobel laureate in Literature, MO Yan, a Chinese novelist and the 2012 Nobel laureate in Literature, and XU Yuanchong, a distinguished Chinese translator who won the “Aurora Borealis” Prize of the Federation of International Translators—extended their congratulatory messages to the establishment of the Academy. 

The tenets of the Academy are to promote the Chinese culture, enhance cultural exchanges, expand spiritual frontiers and propel ideological innovation during the great renewal of the Chinese nation. “The Academy will be committed to work at 4 levels: language, literature, culture and thinking. Our ultimate purpose is to nurture a batch of talents who are equipped with humanistic passions and global visions, full of enthusiasm for Chinese and foreign cultures and capable of making contributions to building a community of shared future,” said XU Jun in an interview.

At the unveiling ceremony, the Academy also signed agreements to cooperate with the Commercial Press and Zhejiang University Press.
