Experience Dragon Boat Festival in ZJU

2019-06-10

June 7 is Dragon Boat Festival of 2019. With over 2000 years of history, dragon boat racing is the most important activity during this festival, which is said to originate from the legend of people paddling out on boats to seek the body of patriotic poet Qu Yuan (343–278 BC) who drowned himself in a river.

On June 8, the VIII Elite Chinese Universities dragon Boat Race and Hangzhou University Dragon Boat Race were held in Xixi National Wetland Park, southwest to Zijingang campus. A total of twenty dragon boat teams raced together in Xixi to celebrate this traditional holiday and the 70 anniversary of China.

Two dragon boat teams from ZJU participated in the Elite Chinese Universities group and Hangzhou University Group competition and both took home the first prize. Additionally, two ZJU cheerleading teams get the energy levels up with their beautiful dance.

Another treat of this festival is Zongzi, a traditional Chinese rice dish made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. You can enjoy them at dinning halls in all seven ZJU campuses.
