ZJU now 13th in THE Asia University Rankings

Zhejiang University (ZJU) continues to lead Chinese universities in the latest guide to Asian university performance released by Times Higher Education (THE) today.

In the 2020 edition of the THE Asia University Rankings that has the continent’s 489 best institutions listed, ZJU is now placed 13th up from 14th previously.

ZJU received the distinction of having the highest score of any Asian institution for Industrial Income which measures the capability of knowledge transfer activity. This year the University has improved the overall scores in the category of citation and international outlook.  

It is the first time in the history of the Asian University Rankings that two Mainland Chinese Universities, Tsinghua University (1st place) and Peking University (2nd place), take the top two spots. Another record of this year is that 3 Mainland Chinese universities make to the list of top 10 Asia universities. With 81 universities in the 2020 ranking, Mainland China is the the second most represented country or region behind Japan (110).

The 13 indicators used to compile the THE Asia University Rankings are Teaching reputation survey (10%), Staff/student ratio (4.5%), Doctorate/bachelor’s ratio (2.25), Doctorate awarded/academic staff ratio (6%), Institutional income (2.25%) and Research reputation survey (15%), Research income (7.5%), Research productivity (7.5%) and Citation (30%), Proportion of international students (2.5%) and Proportion of internatinal staff (2.5%) and International collaboration (2.5%) as well as industry income (7.5%).
