ZJU community welcomes new graduate students

On September 12, Zhejiang University held an opening ceremony on Zijingang Campus, welcoming the newest cohort of more than 10,000 graduate students.

President WU Zhaohui delivered the welcoming remarks and REN Shaobo, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of ZJU, and other senior leaders also attended the ceremony, which was hosted by ZJU Vice President YAN Jianhua.

President WU Zhaohui welcomed new graduate students. 

Multiple factors such as the pandemic and the fourth industrial revolution, WU pointed out in his remarks, will continue to have a profound impact on the world.

“It will trigger transformation in the content, paradigm and culture of innovation,” he added.

The president encouraged new students to strive to generate new disciplines and knowledge, engage in new industries and business models and create new culture and ideas. 

In the rapidly changing world, he said, "I hope that you will learn to be a change maker to live up to your full potential. Your great adventure begins here today."

Alumnus CHEN Xuedong addressed incoming students.

Also speaking was alumnus CHEN Xuedong (chemical engineering, ’86), member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Deputy General Manager of China National Machinery Industry Corporation Ltd, who encouraged students to carry forward the ZJU spirit, make roots in the land and further develop the academic capabilities. 

The ceremony also featured the video greetings from the academicians and distinguished professors, who urged students to pursue the truth, explore with determination and make a meaningful difference in the world.
