In 2004, ZJU joined WUN, a consortium of 23 universities, spanning 13 countries on six continents. WUN hosts interdisciplinary research groups, promotes short-term overseas research visits, and coordinates events, conferences, and virtual seminars.

ZJU joined ARPU in 2003. As the only network of leading universities linking the Americas, Asia and Australasia, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is the Voice of Knowledge and Innovation for the Asia-Pacific region. It brings together thought leaders, researchers, and policy-makers to exchange ideas and collaborate on effective solutions to the challenges of the 21st century.

The GUNi is an international network created in 1999 and supported by the UNESCO, the United Nations University (UNU) and the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP), which hosts its secretariat and presidency.
Established in March 2011, the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU) brings together elite engineering universities in China and Russia, including Zhejiang University and its key partners Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and Moscow Aviation Institute.
The UNESCO Chair in Entrepreneurship Education at Zhejiang University was approved by UNESCO in February 2010. XU Xiaozhou, a professor of education at ZJU, serves as Chair Holder.
