How ZJU Influences Me

2016-03-16

On March 14, Wu Zhaohui, President of Zhejiang University, and Zhang Junsheng, Chairman of the Development Committee, made a special trip to call on 7 ZJU alumni in Shanghai, including Dai Lixin, Shen Yungang, Chen Yizhang, Jin Guozhang, Pan Jingfu, Gan Fuxi and Jing Yipeng.

Wu Zhaohui briefed alumni on the current situation of our university and the plan for future development while alumni shared their heartfelt gratitude towards ZJU and their optimistic expectations of its future development.

“I greatly appreciate the idea that ZJU is giving priority to disciplinary development in the ‘3-Step’ Initiative,” said Dai Lixin, who once worked as an organic chemistry teacher at ZJU, “Talents are key to disciplinary development. When I was pursuing my studies at ZJU, all of my teachers were superbly marvelous, including Su Buqing, Shu Xingbei and Tan Jiazhen. I think ZJU needs to create a more favorable living, academic and working environment for talents, thus attracting a galaxy of experts like a magnet.”

Chen Yizhang was once Dean of the School of Medicine at ZJU. He stressed that the success of talent cultivation should be mirrored by whether or not its students can make achievements. “First, ZJU needs not only celebrated professors but also outstanding teachers with a wealth of expertise knowledge. Second, ZJU should try every means to attract talents. Third, leading professors must be first-class, so they can build a first-class team,” said Chen.

Shen Yungang recollected his ‘enlightenment’ journey at ZJU. “Although I had the slightest idea about physics, I was tremendously impressed by a scientific lecture concerning cosmic rays delivered by Mr. Wang Ganchang. ZJU had a wide spectrum of academic activities and I joined ‘Qiushi Science Club’ headed by Gu Chaohao,” said Shen. Jing Yipeng, who engages in research into astrophysics, expressed his gratitude to his teachers at ZJU. “I laid a solid foundation during my undergraduate study and therefore had the capacity to do research,” said Jing.
