On Sept.13th, 2017, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the world university rankings 2018 by subject : Arts& Humanities. For the first time, Zhejiang University is listed on this subject ranking, locking a position in the range of 101-125. Peking University and Tsinghua University are ranked at No.17 and No.48 respectively, leading the universities in Mainland China.

400 institutions were investigated for the ranking this year, up from 100 last year. A total of 8 universities from Mainland China enrolled on this list that highlights the universities with leading roles across art, performing arts, languages, history, philosophy, theology, architecture and archaeology.

The ranking result also indicates that the rise of higher education in China is not just limited to science and technology subjects, with Peking University joining the top 20 for the first time and Tsinghua University making its debut in the top 50. This billboard for arts and humanities subjects employs the same rigorous and balanced range of 5 performance indicators including Citations, Industry Income, International Outlook, Research and Teaching. Compared with other counterparts in Mainland, ZJU gets higher scores in Citations than Tsinghua and shows the comparable advantages in teaching and research with Nanjing University. However there is more room for improvement in the aspects of Industry Income and International Outlook of ZJU. We are very positive on the great potential of ZJU in the near future.
