The AZFT Cyberspace Security Laboratory was inaugurated on May 24, signifying the deepening cooperative relationship between the University and Alibaba.

“This is a brand-new upgrade following the establishment of the Internet of Things Security Lab by Alibaba and Zhejiang University last year,” Executive Vice Dean of ZJU’s School of Software Technology and Associate Director of the Alibaba-Zhejiang University Frontier Technology Joint Research Center (AZFT) BU Jiajun said.

“At present, the general situation of network security is severe with many unsolved problems. It has become an issue that cannot be ignored by the general public, and that is the reason for us to establish the cyberspace security laboratory,” Director of Cyberspace Security Research Center at Zhejiang University and Director of the AZFT Cyberspace Security Laboratory REN Kui said.

The laboratory has a clear five-year plan that endeavors to facilitate the industry-research cooperation. And it will conduct research on system security, internet of things (IoT) security, cloud security, data protection and artificial intelligence security.

The AZFT Cyberspace Security Lab is led by Prof. REN Kui, an internationally renowned scholar in the field of information security and member of the state recruitment program of global experts, and Dr. DU Yuejin, chief security expert of Alibaba Group.

The laboratory has attracted a large number of high-level talents, including scholars from ZJU’s College of Information Science and Electronic Engineering, College of Computer Science and Technology, and College of Electrical Engineering, as well as multiple algorithm and security experts from the Turing Lab of Alibaba and the Gemini Laboratory.

“Alibaba has a very rich internet application scenario and is therefore the best platform for security research and practice. The joint security laboratory with Zhejiang University can truly help us combine cutting-edge security research with industrial development.” Dr. DU Yuejin said.
