Another three collections of The Series of Ancient Chinese Paintings—A Collection of Paintings from the Warring States Period to the Tang Dynasty, A Collection of Ming Dynasty Paintings and A Collection of Qing Dynasty Paintings—marked their debut on Dec. 12 in Beijing.

ZOU Xiaodong, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Zhejiang University, delivered a speech at the Debut Ceremony. “Zhejiang University adheres to the tenets of connecting the past with the present, linking the east and the west, merging Chinese and foreign knowledge and fusing science and liberal arts. It has established the Cultural Heritage Research Institute and is currently constructing the College of Arts and Archaeology and the Arts and Archaeology Museum. In the years ahead, it will strengthen support in an effort to publish other books in The Series of Ancient Chinese Paintings and make further explorations in intangible cultural heritage preservation, sci-tech archaeology and digitalized civilization,” said ZOU Xiaodong.

The University and the Cultural Heritage Bureau of Zhejiang Province embarked on the compilation and publishing work of The Series of Ancient Chinese Paintings since 2005. In the past 13 years, staff members have contacted and visited more than 250 cultural institutions and museums and sorted out roughly 18,000 masterpieces. The finished collection is expected to feature more than 9,000 works from both China and abroad.

A Collection of Song Dynasty Paintings and A Collection of Yuan Dynasty Paintings are the first two collections in The Series to be published. These two collections have received massive critical acclaim all over the world. Experts hailed The Series as high-fidelity with the maximum replay of the charm of ancient Chinese paintings and as an “encyclopedia” of Chinese arts and history.

At the ceremony, ZJU and the Cultural Heritage Bureau of Zhejiang Province donated some books of A Collection of Paintings from the Warring States Period to the Tang Dynasty, A Collection of Ming Dynasty Paintings and A Collection of Qing Dynasty Paintings to the National Library of China.
