Flashback 2019: Top 10 news stories in arts and humanities

2019 is a remarkable year for arts and humanities at Zhejiang University. Here’s a look back at the 10 most impressive moments that made headlines in 2018.

1. ZJU makes record-breaking achievements in research in arts and humanities, with 68 projects supported by the National Social Science Fund and with the research fund totaling more than 300 million yuan.

The Alliance of Research Universities in Yangtze River Delta, proposed by Zhejiang University and co-initiated by Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University and the University of Science and Technology of China, was officially inaugurated on May 22.

3. The 10 cutting-edge and challenging scientific questions were released with a view to inspiring fresh insights in domestic and international academia and promoting inter-disciplinary research into consciousness, the brain and AI in August.

4.Zhejiang University Museum of Art and Archaeology (ZUMAA), aimed to support and promote education and research, opened on September 8.  

5. Economics & Business of ZJU ranked among top 1% worldwide in in Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Rankings.

6. A Selected Collection of Judicial Archives in Longquan, containing 96 volumes, came out in September.

7. The Zhejiang University Institute of China’s State System was officially established in December.

8. ZJU signed a framework agreement on strategic cooperation with the Palace Museum and embarked on a new journey of transforming and developing the Chinese traditional culture in a creative and innovative manner in the new era.

9. A galaxy of talents in arts and humanities, including 3 senior professors, 3 leading professors and 34 researchers recruited in the “Hundred Talent Program”, joined the ZJU community.

10. The newly-built Humanities Complex came to completion.
